Supervision of Works for the Rehabilitation of the Morogoro Water Supply System in Tanzania
Nicholas O'Dwyer have been awarded the contract for the Supervision of Works for the Rehabilitation of the Morogoro Water Supply System in Tanzania. Morogoro is in the southern highlands of Tanzania, approximately 190km west of Dar es Salaam. This project is funded by the Millennium Challenge Coporation and will provide an improved water supply to Morogoro City (Population 200,000+). The goal of the project is to rehabilitate and upgrade the Mafiga Water Treatment Plant to increase producton and expand pumping and transmission from the plant, and refurbish/replace the Mambogo water supply. Nicholas O'Dwyer are to provide Resident Engineering Staff and Environmental Specialist and Water Treatment Specialists.Replacement of Broadcast Masts
RTE, the National Broadcaster, have appointed Nicholas O'Dwyer Ltd. as Project Managers for the replacement of 3 broadcast masts and associated antenna installations. The masts are located on Mullaghanish, Truskmore and Mount Leinster. The firm in addition to Project Management will also provide structural, geotechnical and environmental support for the project. It is anticipated that work on site will continue over a three year period.
New Museum Building at Collins Barracks
Detailed design is now well advanced for a new museum building designed in response to the formal urban characteristics of the existing barracks buildings framing it on both sides. The building is generally three stories with a higher plantroom on the eastern end bringing up the scale to match the 4 storey Clarke Square exhibition buildings., and a lower theatre block reducing the scale towards the western end with its lower. There are two full basement floors beneath the building extending out to the front edge of the site with the roof of this basement forming a new landscaped front square facing the river Liffey. The entire structure is 112 metres long and encloses 18,000 square metres.
Dublin Docklands Rising Main Scheme
Following completion of the Preliminary Report for twin rising mains from the North Docks area to Main Lift Pumping Station, the firm has been appointed by Dublin City Council to complete detailed design, contract documents and provide construction supervision for the scheme. This scheme will provide for the long term drainage of the North Docks area and is being constructed in areas with some of the densest services concentrations in Dublin, using a combination of technologies.
Liffey Services Installation Contract
Following completion of the Preliminary Report for twin rising mains from the North Docks area to Main Lift Pumping Station, the firm's appointment has been extended by Dublin City Council to complete detailed design, contract documents and provide construction supervision for the Liffey Services Installation Contract. This scheme involves the installation of all the services (ESB, Foul Rising Mains, Watermain, District Heating and Telecoms) in a 260m tunnel under the Liffey.
Balbriggan Water Supply Scheme
Fingal County Council have appointed Nicholas O'Dwyer Ltd. to prepare a preliminary report for the improvement of water supply to the Ballbriggan area. The firm has a history of working with the Council in the North Dublin area where we have at construction stage the Leixlip to Ballycoolen rising mains, and the Lissenhall to Jordanstown trunk main.
County Kerry Wastewater and Sludge Project
Following completion of preliminary and advance studies for a series of town and villages in Kerry the firm has been appointed by Kerry County Council to complete detailed design and contract documents for Collection Networks for Ballyduff, Ballylongford, Lixnaw and Tarbert and for a Treatment Works procured under a Design, Build and Operate Contract.
Lough Mourne & Letterkenny Water Supply Scheme
Work has commenced on the preparation of Contract Documents for the Lough Mourne and Letterkenny Water Supply Scheme. These works will include an impoundment reservoir at Lough Mourne, a 31 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Meencrumlin and over 40km of trunk mains ranging in size from 1000mm to 200mm diameter. The value of the scheme is in excess of €60 million and it is hoped to be complete by 2013. Ministerial approval for the scheme followed the successful certification of an EIS, Water Abstraction Order and Compulsory Purchase Order by An Bord Pleanála.
Leixlip Water Treatment Plant Expansion
The next phase of expansion at Leixlip Water Treatment works is currently at tender stage and is expected to commence work on site in 2009. Leixlip Water Treatment Plant delivers approximately one third of the water supply to the greater Dublin area and can serve close to 1 million customers. This latest phase of development will increase the treatment capacity from 175 MLD to 255 MLD and will help in meeting Dublins growing water demands. These works continue the involvement of Nicholas O'Dwyer as Consultants for the Scheme since its inception in the 1950's.
