Nicholas O' Dwyer Consulting Engineers is one of the oldest established firms of Consulting Engineers in Ireland.  Established in 1932, Nicholas O’Dwyer has now been operating in the Republic of Ireland for over seventy five years.  In 1970 the firm expanded into the international field with the opening of two permanent offices; one at Newry in the United Kingdom, and the other at Lusaka, Zambia.  Subsequently major branch offices were opened in Nigeria, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania.

The operations of the company in Ireland mainly deal with civil and structural engineering work for Government and State Organisations.  The international section concentrates on donor funded development projects in the fields of water supply, pollution control, highways and bridges.  In addition private sector projects are carried out for commercial, agriculture and industrial clients.  Personnel numbers vary considerably depending on the workload and operations at any particular time.  Average numbers of professional engineers in permanent employment in the last few years have been around 70 with a ratio of 80/20 between those in Ireland and those resident overseas. Total staff numbers average around 170.

The international section of the company is registered with the majority of funding agencies and has been entrusted with projects financed by the World Bank (IDA), European Union (EDF), United Nations (UNOPS), African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Arab Bank for Development in Africa (BADEA).  In addition several overseas projects have been carried out under Irish Bilateral Aid.  The Company has a considerable portfolio of European Development Fund experience with numerous successful projects being completed worldwide over the last twenty five years.
